Riverside is the strip of central Chiang Mai that hugs the east bank of the Ping River between Nawarat Bridge and the Iron Bridge (Saphan Lek).

The pace is slower than Nimman, the riverside restaurants have real evening atmosphere rather than coworking-cafe churn, and the short ride to the Old City gives cultural access without the noise of being inside the moat. The main Charoenrat Road corridor is flat and pleasant on foot, but sidewalks disappear near Warorot.

The tradeoff that every prospective resident must weigh is flood risk. The October 2024 Ping River flood, which the Bangkok Post covered extensively, peaked at approximately 5.3 m at the Nawarat Bridge gauge, and water entered the ground floor of McCormick Hospital, which moved its patients upstairs. Burning-season air quality is also poor: IQAir puts Chiang Mai's yearly PM2.5 average at around 32 μg/m³, with the worst air from February to April. Neither of these is a reason to avoid Riverside outright, but they should shape unit selection (second floor or higher, never ground floor near the river) and seasonal planning.
