About Wat Phra Singh
Wat Phra Singh Woramahawihan was built in 1345 by King Phayu of Lanna and stands at the west end of Ratchadamnoen Road, the Old City's main street from Tha Phae Gate. It keeps the Phra Buddha Sihing, the Lion Buddha, in the small Wihan Lai Kham beside the golden chedi, and in 1935 it was raised to a royal temple of the first grade.
At Songkran the Phra Buddha Sihing is carried through the city in procession so that people can pour water over it.
It is a working temple: cover your shoulders and knees, and take off your shoes before entering a building.
