Daily life runs by car. Central Chiangmai Airport mall, with a supermarket, cinema, food court and banks, is a short drive east, and Royal Park Rajapruek is on the doorstep for weekend outings. Lanna International School and Grace International School are in neighboring Hang Dong.

The honest downsides are burning season, aircraft noise and the car. Burning season smoke settles over the valley early in the year, so families with young children should plan for air purifiers at home. Flights are audible, more on some plots than others, so visit at different times of day before you sign. And public transport is thin: families who get around only by scooter find Mae Hia less comfortable than the walkable central tambons.
